Lives in Amsterdam
Dutch/Croatian photographer Sanja Marušić’s approach towards the medium of photography is experimental and to use her words ‘a fat struggle’. Her collages, avant-gardisticly dressed girls, ‘A Cy Twombly act of appreciation of the moment’, mixed with futuristic landscapes have an uncanny effect. Yet her character and that of her work is very aloof and even off focus. This is she. She wants to destruct and rebuild photography to decompose the personalities to find that subtle defining thing that defines each individual.
Marušić received in 2013 the honourable award from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and was nominated in three categories for the Photo Academy Award 2013. In 2009, she received the first prize in Fashion Photography from Elle Magazine and in 2010 the second prize in Fashion Photography of Hollands Diep Magazine. Already she has won assignments from the likes of Elle, Vice Magazine, Base Magazine, Odd Magazine, DEW Magazine, Vogue online and Vrij Nederland.
