Mari Katayama (b. 1987, Japan) graduated with an M.F.A. from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2012. Since she was a child, she's loved sewing to make objects. When she was nine years old, both of her legs were amputated. Currently, she is working on several projects taking self-portraits with her hand-sewn objects in her own room, wearing high heels on her artificial legs, singing and modeling on the stage with them. She won the Encouragement Prize at the 8th Gunma Biennale for Young Artists in 2005 and the Grand Prize at Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi in 2012.
