Amsterdam-based artists Carmen Freudenthal and Elle Verhagen met after graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where they studied photography and fashion design.
There was an immediate recognition of a mutual taste for image making, resulting in their collaboration as of 1989.
Freudenthal/Verhagen always search for ways to expand the definition of photography, crossing lines between art, photography and fashion imagery. Stretching the confines of photography, they have merged photography into 3D installations, projected video onto photographs and printed photographs onto draped silk.
Works are listed in the collections of the Groninger Museum and Centraal Museum Utrecht.
