The National Maritime Museum shows how our culture has been shaped by the sea. Stimulating, interactive exhibitions allow and a collection of about 400.000 objects give a nearly complete image of 500 years of maritime history in the Netherlands. The collection is of major national importance and also has a prominent position in the international field.

The Ultimate Sailor: Under Construction

For hundreds of years sailors have been portrayed through caricatures and stereotypes. In The Ultimate Sailor: Under Construction, artists reflect on the way persistent stereotypical representations resonate with today’s conception of the sailor. Renowned photographers Koen Hauser, Marie-José Jongerius and Aisha Zeijpveld create a vibrant, new and non-conformist palette for The Ultimate Sailor.
