LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020 BY JAPANESE PHOTOGRAPHERS #4
A new generation of Japanese photographers refuse to work within the confines set by the preceding generations who, whilst rising to prominence around the world, continuously released heavily concept driven projects or/and works themed upon their private life (Nobuyoshi Araki’s Sentimental Journey instantly comes to mind). Those young artists would seek for photographic expression that looks, at a glance, more free and light-hearted but that ultimately creates a refreshingly new photographic narrative of their own.
They would choose to shoot subjects that are so anonymous that they don’t look unique or special in the traditional sense but then mash their photos with other materials or found pictures in search of their own voice. They are completely free of history or hierarchy, mixing analogue technology with digital and freely moving between globalism and localism at their will, a style that can only be described as anarchic.
Participating artists are:
Hideyuki Ishibashi, Harumi Shimizu, Fumi Ishino, Naohiro Utagawa, Kanako Azuma and Yutaka Komase. All artists will be present at the gallery between 14.00-15.00 on the 24th of September.
Opening hours: 11.00-18.00
