Galerie Fons Welters

The Netherlands, Amsterdam Stand 28

Opening its doors in 1988 in a former garage in Amsterdam's Jordaan area, Fons Welters has been praised for its distinctive quality of discovering young unknown talented artists. Since its start, the gallery established itself nationally and internationally with its particular focus on installation art and sculptural approaches. Maintaining a diverse exhibition programme, Galerie Fons Welters presents solo exhibitions of the gallery artists as well as group exhibitions and special projects. An expanded exhibition programme was initiated in 2000, with the opening of Playstation, a project space in the front space of the gallery. Mostly consisting of solo’s by young artists, the programme showcased works by young art graduates. The second exhibition space is currently being used as a platform to show emerging international talents who have not yet been presented in the Netherlands, as well as smaller presentations by the gallery’s artists.
