Studio Aleppo: two photo studios and exhibitions during Unseen
Studio Aleppo is a homage to those who have witnessed their surroundings destroyed by war and were forced to flee their homes. Old and new citizens of a city are invited to get their picture taken by a prominent photographer at a pop-up photo studio.
The first exhibitions and pop-up photo studios are during Unseen, the photo fair and festival from 17–25 September. Famous Dutch portrait photographer Koos Breukel photographs (new) citizens of Amsterdam during the first weekend (17 and 18 September) at Felix Meritis. From 19–25 September, these portraits are printed and exhibited in a monumental portrait gallery at Felix Meritis (admission free).
On September the 19th and 20th, the Syrian photographer Issa Touma photographs old and new neighbours from the Spaarndammer neighbourhood in Amsterdam. In 2018, a refugee centre will open in this district. For now, it’s the festival heart of Unseen Photo Festival. A selection of the portraits made by Issa will be presented in the windows of Effe bij moeder An, a social living room in the Spaarndammerbuurt.
On the 25th of September, there will be a festive conclusion with partners, visitors and the portrayed citizens at Felix Meritis between 14.30-15.30.
