During Unseen Amsterdam 2017 Jaya Pelupessy will create a publication at the Unseen Book Market, making the Book Market the reference and content of the publication. The artist will select a number of books presented by publishers participating in Unseen Book Market, and will work with them at the production studio set up right at the market’s location. Pelupessy will conduct a study on the form of a photobook, reacting to the shapes, lines, colors etc. of publications, combining them with other materials, manipulating the form, and transforming it into a new product of reproduction. A number of publications reflecting this transformation process will be created right on site. The process of creating the The Book Market Book publication will be documented online. In the end, anyone will be able to download the pdf of the publication, print and bind it at home as an open source project.
Jaya Pelupessy (1989, NL) uses photography to investigate the medium’s status. Central to his work are the processes that lead to autonomous images; an examination of to what extent the process itself and the visibility of that process strengthens, invalidates, or delivers new autonomous images. Countless “loops” within his own work emerge, within which reproductions are again reproduced.” His work has been shown in multiple museums and gallery’s including FOAM Amsterdam. His book SET-PUT-RUN is published by Fw:Books and will be available at the Unseen Book Market.
The project is supported by Fujilm Original Photopaper.
