Cancellation of Unseen Amsterdam 2020
13 July 2020
The resurgence in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks in various countries has caused many international galleries to have doubts about the feasibility of a successful participation in Unseen Amsterdam. Both the fear of a lockdown and of international collectors choosing to not attend are important considerations for not taking part in Unseen 2020. This past week, Unseen has been confronted with various cancellations from galleries that had already registered for the event and no longer wish to participate.
All the same, the organisation is still convinced that, with the implementation of appropriate measures, a safe and pleasant visit to or participation in Unseen is guaranteed. The international character that makes the event so unique is now under pressure as a result of these concerns and cancellations.
To ensure the success of Unseen in the long term, the management feels it is of essential importance to safeguard the international character of the first edition under the management of the Art Rotterdam team. The management has therefore decided to cancel the 2020 edition and to hold next year's edition 17 -19 September 2021.
Unseen has received lots positive responses and feedback since the acquisition last January. This further strengthens the organisation’s confidence to make the fair an unparalleled international venue for modern photography.
