Rug #2, 2011 © Maurice Scheltens & Liesbeth Abbenes/Martin van Zomeren
Situated along one of the most picturesque canals in Amsterdam, the Prinsengracht, is the gallery Martin van Zomeren. Since its establishment in 2004, the gallery has represented Dutch and international artists focused on conceptual art and photography.
Martin van Zomeren will be representing the following artists at Unseen: Dutch visual artist and photographer Katja Mater (1979), German visual artist and photographer Alexandra Leykauf (1976) and Dutch photography/visual art duo, Maurice Scheltens & Liesbeth Abbenes (1972/1970). For a behind the scenes look at the making of a photograph similar to the one featured by Scheltens & Abbenes (and an appearance of Martin van Zomeren), watch the second episode of AVRO Kunstuur’s photography series, In Sight, collecting photographs (watch a preview here).
Currently on display at the gallery is the exhibition Praneet Soi: Okhla Mandi of Amsterdam and Calcutta-based artist Praneet Soi (1971). This exhibition will consist of 52 unique images (drawings and photographic cut outs), a slideshow named Okhla Mandi and several performances in 3 short acts. The exhibition is on display until 19 May.
Martin van Zomeren is located on the Prinsengracht 276 in Amsterdam, and is open Wednesday to Saturday from 1-6pm.
