Unseen Congratulates: Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2015 Shortlist Announced

Nikolai Bakharev (1946, Russia), Zanele Muholi (1972, South Africa), 2013 Unseen campaign artist Viviane Sassen (1972, Netherlands) and Michael Subotzky (1981, South Africa) & Patrick Waterhouse (1981, UK) are the four artists shortlisted for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2015. The annual award of £30,000 rewards a living photographer, of any nationality, for a specific body of work in an exhibition or publication format, which has significantly contributed to photography in Europe in the last year. 

Bakharev is nominated for his exhibition at the 55th Biennale of Art in Venice (1 June - 24 November 2013), Muholi for her publication Faces and Phases 2006-2014 (Steidl, 2014), Sassen for her exhibition Umbra at the Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam (8 March - 1 June 2014) Subotzky & Waterhouse for their publication Ponte City (Steidl, 2014).

Previous recipients of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize include Richard Mosse for the exhibition The Enclave in 2014, Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin for their publication War Primer 2 in 2013, and John Stezekar in 2012. 

The winner will be announced at a special ceremony at The Photographers’ Gallery on 28 May 2015. Works by the shortlisted photographers will be exhibited at The Photographers’ Gallery in London from 17 April to 7 June 2015 and at the Museum fur Moderne Kunst (Museum for Modern Art) in Frankfurt.
