From discovering photographers to determining editions and displaying prints, the book
accompanies collectors through the whole process of acquiring photographic works, while providing guidance on practical matters including information about different photographic techniques (Thames & Hudson ). In a Wall Street Journal article, Phillips called building a photography collection "a journey of discovering tastes and interests," and advises new collectors to see as much work as possible at exhibitions, fairs, auctions and galleries before making a purchase.
