American photographer Scott Schuman (1968), a fashion merchandising major, worked in the fashion industry for 15 years before starting his street-style blog, The Sartorialist. Schuman's idea was to "[create] a two-way dialogue about the world of fashion and its relationship to daily life". Work by Schuman has been featured in GQ, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris and Interview, and brands like Burberry, Nespresso, DKNY Jeans and Gant have all commissioned ad campaigns from him. Work by Scott Schuman, a.k.a. The Sartoralist, will be presented by New York-based Danziger Gallery at Unseen Photo Fair.
To James Danziger, owner of Danziger Gallery, Schuman told that he developed the blog to "simply share photos of people that I saw on the streets of New York that I thought looked great. When I worked in the fashion industry, I always felt that there was a disconnect between what I was selling in the showroom and what I was seeing real people (really cool people) wearing in real life."

Schuman's blog has not only brought the recognition to real-life fashionistas that they deserve, but also taken him to the top of the fashion world. Today he works for the likes of Vogue and has had his photographs published by Penguin. The Sartorialist, his first book, was published in 2009 and was a global success with more than 100,000 copies sold. On August 29, 2012, it was time for Schuman's second publication, Closer, to hit the shelves. Getting even closer "to the niche of the type of people" he wants to shoot, the Sartorialist continues to be inspired by the diversity of people, cultures and styles he gets to see with his work.

Next to being a renowned name in fashion, the Sartorialist's ability to capture the moment of elegance in his subjects has turned his images into acclaimed pieces of art. Recently, photographs by Schuman have been exhibited for example as a part of PhotoEspaña 2012 (in collaboration with Loewe). Furthermore, his work resides in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
