Grolsch Unseen Residency

Together Grolsch and Unseen have created the Grolsch Unseen Residency: a scholarship given annually to one artist to create a new body of work within the local urban creative landscape of that year’s chosen European city. For this first edition, the selected artist will do a two-month residency in London, allowing him/her to work closely with photography professionals as well as with leaders of the local creative industry. The artist will be urged to look at the urban space in alternative or uncommon ways. The resulting work from the residency will be launched within the following edition of Unseen Photo Fair & Festival.

This year the international jury consists of of Alison Nordstrom (curator, US), Jenny Nordquist (Artistic Director, Landskrona Foto Festival, SE) and Karin Andreasson (Photo Editor, The Guardian, SE). From 61 premiering artists presented, the jury will choose the final winner for the Grolsch Unseen Residency, to be announced mid November 2016.

Sharing the perspective that conventions must be challenged to create something new, Grolsch and Unseen have formed a partnership to encourage emerging artists to look at the urban environment with fresh eyes. The residency offers the artist a platform where they get the chance to excel and gain exposure within the international art world, when their work is presented at Unseen Photo Fair & Festival 2017.

Ronald van Amerongen (Global Brand Director, Grolsch) about the collaboration: “We are delighted to partner with Unseen Photo Fair in setting up this residency. Grolsch has always supported creative culture and has a legacy of collaborating with creative leaders in the world of art, film and photography. This new partnership perfectly highlights our mission to encourage unconventional thinking and celebrate the progress creativity brings”.
