Camilla Grimaldi

The United Kingdom, London

Camilla Grimaldi gallery was founded as Brancolini Grimaldi in 2004 by dealers Isabella Brancolini and Camilla Grimaldi. With spaces in Florence and Rome, the gallery's programme focused on photography and video seeking out contemporary artists who use photography as a means and often push the medium past its typical preconceptions. In April 2011 Brancolini Grimaldi opened a new gallery space on Albemarle Street, Mayfair. With the curatorial guidance of Paul Wombell, the gallery added several British contemporary artists to its roster and proudly introduced them to a wider public.

The gallery changed its name to Camilla Grimaldi in January 2014, and relocated to a temporary space on Old Burlington Street. Camilla Grimaldi gallery continues to represent a broad range of international artists that share a ground-breaking and experimental approach to photography as a means of artistic expression. The programme seeks to redefine the future of the medium and the way it is displayed and experienced.

The gallery actively helps artists realise ambitious projects by commissioning and producing new works. Since 2007 the gallery has collaborated with publisher Gerhard Steidl in creating books and special editions. In 2006 the gallery released Massimo Vitali's limited edition portfolio, Landscapes with Figures and in 2010 a special edition, Natural Habitats. In 2012 the gallery published Dan Holdsworth, Blackout and Peter Fraser, A City In The Mind under the imprint SteidlBG. In 2013 the gallery published Miles Aldridge's Carousel, a limited edition portfolio of 32 prints combining high-gloss lithographic reproductions with dead-matt silkscreen solid colours.

The gallery actively consults private and corporate collections, curating and organising exhibitions in collaboration with international institutions and museums. The gallery has been participating in many international art fairs, including Paris Photo, Paris and Los Angeles; Arco, Madrid; Artissima, Torino; Arte Fiera, Bologna; Art Hong Kong; Zona Maco, Mexico City and Pulse Miami.
