Framer Framed is a space for contemporary art, visual culture and critical theory & practice. The organisation collaborates with international curators and artists, emerging as much as established, to create art exhibitions dealing with topics such as identity politics, notions of 'the other' and historiographical propositions. Alongside the exhibitions, an extensive public program is organised in order to shed different lights on the topics concerned. With this common space for dialogue, Framer Framed aims to show a plurality of voices in a globalized society.
Re(as)sisting Narratives, curated by Chandra Frank, explores lingering legacies of colonialism between South Africa and the Netherlands by engaging with contemporary artists from both countries. Participating artists also delve into broader themes such as race, gender, memory, trauma and spatiality in their work.
Participating artists include Mary Sibande, Mohau Modisakeng, Athi-Patra Ruga, Burning Museum, Toni Stuart & Kurt Orderson, Judith Westerveld and Sethembile Msezane.
