De Brakke Grond

Exhibition: Light Displacement
With Light Displacement, De Brakke Grond is delighted to present the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by Meggy Rustamova. Meggy Rustamova (°1985, lives and works in Ghent) was born in Georgia, and finally ended up in Belgium following a sojourn in the Netherlands. She never refers explicitly to her origins, but works around themes such as language, identity and the credibility or otherwise of images.

The title Light Displacement refers both to the burningly topical theme of migration – of which the artist has intensely personal experience – and to the light so essential in photography. Rustamova makes use of both photography and film to explore the tensions between reality and fiction.
